A day in the life of a cake decorator!

Man! Beth and I had a busy weekend!!! We made this cake for her daughter's 2nd birthday. I think that it is super cute!!! The cake is a triple chocolate cake with butter cream icing. The cupcakes are white cake with butter cream icing, which Beth made all on her own. I think they are cute also; She did an awesome job! As for the other pictures, the one of me, well, thats what happens when you make a cake with 29 different colors!!! The other picture, all I can say is poor Beth!! It was about midnight and we were both very tired!!!! Hope everyone enjoys!!!

The "Great" pumpkin????

I made this cake for our Kids 4 Truth party at church. I thought it was cute but my "friend" Beth said it looked amateur. I guess the only thing I would have done different is make the leaves on the vines bigger. Beth said I should have scrapped the vines all together. Oh well, what are friends far right... at least she was honest, which is one of the reason why we are still friends!!! ha ha. This is a single layer 11x15 yellow cake with chocolate butter cream icing.

Over the hill

This is a cake I made for my best friend's mother, for her 50th birthday. It is a double layer 11x15 butter yellow cake with butter cream icing.

These are my two latest creations!! I think they turned out really well. I like the round cake better than the 11x15. I think this design works best on a round cake. I made this for a little girl's 1st birthday. This design was picked out by her mom. All in all, I think I did a good job!!! Enjoy!!!!

Po-Po-Po-Poker cake

Very seldom do I make a cake that I really love (I am a perfectionist)... but this time I impressed even myself. I love this cake! It is a poker themed cake obviously. It is a butter cake with butter cream icing. The cards and poker chips and banner are made all of fondant!! I think this is one of the best cakes I have done thus far!!! Every time I see it, I always want to sing that Lady GaGa song "Poker Face" Ha!Ha! Hope every one enjoys!!

Monogrammed cake and cupcakes

I made this cake and cupcakes for my niece's 7th birthday party. The theme was a brown and pink party. I made devil's food cake for both the cake and cupcakes. I used hot pink icing to decorate both. The monogrammed circles on the cupcakes are made out of fondant. Not much to it, but I think they are really cute.

Update and the beach

So much has been going on, I haven't been able to update in a while. My family and I just got back from a trip to Destin, FL. It was so much fun! It was my girls first trip to the beach and they loved it. My oldest daughter (6) and I went parasailing on the second day we were there. It was AWESOME! From 800 ft. in the air, you can see lots of cool things. We saw different schools of fish and even a few sting rays. I recommend doing that at least once in your life if you get the chance. Above are some pics from that trip. I love the sunset. I think it looks really cool.

Angel's cake

My friend Beth and I made this cake for her sister-n-law Angel. It is a single layer 9x13 white cake with decorator icing. Beth did all of the purple lace, which by the way, she did a great job. I made the flowers out of royal icing. I think this cake is cute. I'm trying to talk Beth into leaving computer programming and becoming a cake decorator. So far, thats up in the air. :-)

1st birthday

I made this cake for my youngest daughter's first birthday. The idea came from another cake website. It is a 2 layer 10 in. and 6 in. butter yellow cake. It is suppose to have a fondant #1 on the top surrounded by rolled fondant rose but they broke at the last minute and I didn't make any extra so I put a #1 candle and royal icing flowers on the top. Normally, if I was making this cake for some one else, I would have made extra and allowed for breakage, why I didnt do the same for myself who knows. Not my favorite cake but its ok.

Who..will be..the next...

I really like this cake. I got the idea from another cake website. I thought I did a good job on this one being it was the first time that I worked with fondant. This cake is a single layer 11x15 butter yellow cake with decorator icing. The stars, banner, and microphone are all made of fondant. I made it for my daughter's 6th birthday and it was a big hit. Everybody wanted a piece of the microphone. The only thing I would have done differently was make the banner bigger and do better placement with the stars. I think there were just a few too many. But otherwise a good cake.

Pink and brown polka dots

I love pink and brown! I also love polka dots! This is a cake that I made for my husband's friend Mike. He wanted to suprise his girlfriend with a cake for her birthday. She is pregnant with a little girl they will be naming Charley so Mike thought it would be a cute idea to put "charley's mom" on the cake. I thought it was really cute. This is a 2 layer 9x13 cake. It is a butter yellow cake with decorator icing in pink and the writing and the brown dots are chocolate butter cream.

The cake that tried to kill me...

This cake.... what can I say about it. I had felt bad all week and I was really tired. Not a good thing to be when making cake. This cake was for a baby shower for a girl named Jessica.
Her sisters were suprising her with a cake that looked just like her invitations. I thought that the fondant pregnant lady turned out really well. Its not that I don't like the rest of the cake, its just that there is sooo much GREEN! I didn't really know what else to add to it without screwing it up. But overall, I guess, it was ok. I think that if I had felt better, it would have looked alot better. But oh well.... live and learn right?
